Living In A Jar

We won't get far, flying circles inside a jar.
- Death Cab for Cutie

Listening to this song makes me think that we so often are doing this. We fly around a small confined space looking out at the world and not understanding why we can see it but can't reach it.

The worst part is that so often we confine ourselves you these jars. We are scared of what will happen if we leave the safe confines of our comfort zone. For some of us it's that we don't believe in ourselves. For others it's that they're scared of what others will think of them.

I think this happens not only in relationships but it all aspects of our lives. We're scared to apply for that big internship/job because we may get turned down. We're scared to move to a new city because we don't know anyone. Or go to a college your friends aren't going to.

Let me be the first to say that I have spent much of my life inside of a jar. I convinced myself that the unknown was something to be frightened of. What I've learned is that stepping off into the unknown can be a beautiful thing!!

My unknown was going to school 3 hours from home where I didn't know anyone. But going for that adventure has taught me so many things and introduced me to so many incredible people I would have never otherwise met!

So I encourage you to look closely at your surroundings and see if you to are limiting your opportunities and potential. If you are do something to change that! I challenge you to go outside of your comfort zone and see what can come of it!

If you do please let me know about it. I would love to hear your stories!

How Far Would You Go?

How far would you go for what could potentially be love? As I talked about in my post The Boy She Meet Online, meeting people online isn't that taboo anymore. So does this mean that we have a greater chance of finding our soulmate than we ever did before?

When I was younger (And way to into deep thinking!) I used to worry that the love of my life could be across the world where I could never possibly find him. But now that has become much less of a problem because it doesn't matter if he's across the world, or the country because through the internet I can still find him.

But how far would you go for this chance at love? Would you fly half way across the country to meet a stranger in the hopes that they could be your perfect match?

I mean I suppose you were answering that question yes when you began to talk to someone that you knew was far away. But what if it is simply the glamour of falling for a stranger that attracts you more than the actual compatibility.

I realize I've just asked a lot of questions and have given absolutely zero answers. But the thing is that I don't have any answers to give you just yet.

Maybe it's being scared of taking a chance or even of something actually working, of actually falling in love with someone that holds us back from doing crazy things. I constantly encourage you all to take chances and do things you never dreamed you would do, so many it's time I took that advice for myself and finally did something crazy.

This gives me a lot to think about... I apologize for the nonsensical rant but I appreciate any thoughts you may have on the matter!!

It's Raining Men

Why is it that as you soon as you've decided to stop looking and give up on boys that they suddenly start a feeding frenzy? At our loneliest most single moments boys don't even notice that you exist. But when you have a guy on your mind that is actually interested in you, suddenly you become the most amazing girl in the world.

I feel like content-ness with your current situation is like blood in the water to boys. They smell it on you and they want a piece of it.

For instance, a boy that I liked very much about 3 or 4 months ago is now wanting to hang out with me! 3 or 4 months ago I would have been absolutely ecstatic to hang out with this boy. But now as he tells me I need to come to his room because he's already in bed naked, (YES, he actually said that) I am debating whether or not I want to be that girl.

Honestly I feel like if you didn't want me then, then why the hell should I want you now? I'm still the same girl I was but I don't want to be anyones seconds, thirds, fourths, or whatever I would be.

It must be this newfound confidence that has become the powerful trigger to attract all these men to me.  But as I would encourage ever girl that's single out there to do: Don't be with someone that won't care about you in all times, the good and the bad.

You need to have respect for yourself first if you want any guy to respect you. And I truly doubt that boy anixously awaiting my arrive in the nude has zero respect for me. Which is why I politely declined and laughed my head off with my roommates about it.

Love yourself first girls!

Basket of Broken Eggs

In a recent conversation I was having with a guy friend he told me something so true, "All you girls put all your eggs in one basket and when shit starts to go sour you freak out." Not only did it entertain me immensely but I realized it was also so true!!

It got me thinking that as girls we do put all our hopes in one thing, usually one guy, then when it doesn't work out we are crushed. Why do we constantly do this to ourselves? We obviously learn that it's not good idea the first time it happens, yet we consistently do it over and over again.

What is it about us as women that makes us consistently do things that we know are bad for us? We date the jerks. We forgive the cheaters. We trust the players. Yet almost every time exactly what we knew would happen, happens.

I think it's that all of us try to believe in the good in people.

We think every frog has the potential to be our prince charming when the truth of the matter is that a lot of them are just frogs.

But while we continue to let ourselves get hurt by "putting all our eggs in one basket" I honestly can't say I wouldn't want it any other way. Sure all my eggs may get broken when he turns out to not be as amazing as I thought but I wouldn't want to miss out by not giving everything my all.

I believe in living life to the fullest and that means putting my all into everything I do. Holding back because we're scared of getting hurt only hurts us more in the long run.

So I challenge you to try and give everything your all be fearless! We have to hurt to feel the high of real unconditional love.

Actions Speak Louder Than Words But....

We've all heard the saying actions speak louder than words. But just because we don't necessarily go through with our actions doesn't mean that our words don't still hurt. Sometimes we think we are saying things in private or even just in our thoughts. But our feelings always have a way of coming out.

I recently unintentionally hurt someone and their reputation by words that I thought would never get back to them. Every action has a equal reaction. So even when we say things that we don't truly mean someone can still get hurt.

All I can say is think always before you act. Women have a bad tendency to let their emotions take over and do the thinking for them but don't forget to still use your brain even when you are upset!!

That's all I have to say for you guys today. Hope you can learn from my mistakes!

Giving Change A Chance

While I desperately wish that I was an exciting and adventurous girl that runs off to climb a mountain or flies to New York to meet a stranger on a whim I sadly am not. Occasionally I will do something spontaneous but mostly I like things to stay just the way the are.

I HATE change. I hate having to start every school year new with new classes, teachers, friends. I would cry almost every semester for the first week because I hated that awkward getting back into the rhythm of things period.

So naturally when preparing to come back to school for winter break after not seeing anyone for a month and knowing that lots of things have changed I was scared to death. I loved last semester. I liked my classes. I liked that we had our set time we ate lunch everyday and every Sunday night was movie night. Coming back was going to feel like starting all over again.

Now here's the wild part. I came back to campus and it was amazing there was nothing to be afraid of. Sure some friends were gone but there were so many still here that were over joyed to see me. Even though time has passed it was like nothing had changed, probably because in reality nothing had.

In my very first class instead of the usual awkwardly trying to find somewhere to sit because you don't know anyone and you just feel so uncomfortable I walked in to see that I knew nearly every person in the class. Not only that but my best friend has all of the same classes I do.

This was radically different for me then the scene last year when I was miserable most of the semester because I had no friends in my classes and no one to sit with in the cafeteria. I thought that changing from that was to scary.

Thank god I took a chance and transferred to the school I'm at now because I couldn't be anymore happy. I am truly where I belong and I am so incredibly lucky to be here.

So the moral to this little personal rant (sorry about that) is that sometimes we have to take a chance and make a change to get what we really want and find what will make us happy.

I know that change is scary but what's even scarier is that you may be missing out on so many opportunities to be happier because you're frightened! So the next time you're on the brink of making a big decision to change something GO FOR IT!!!

Best Buy Guy

If you follow my twitter @Classy_In_KC I'm sure you will have noticed a plethora of tweets about this famously man that has been aptly named #BestBuyGuy. In most recent news I have discovered Best Buy Guy's real name. It is Matt:)

Now many girls, myself included would usually let a casual run in with an attractive man go. They'd be flattered that he seemed interested but never really pursue anything. And we wonder why we can't find good guys... It's because we're apathetic about pursuing them!!

While my methods (going back and telling the manager how fabulous his service was to discover his name) may borderline on creepy it's better than me sitting at home and wondering what if or continually checking the craigslist misconnections to see if maybe by some miracle he posted about you. Though that may make him kind of creepy if he uses craiglist...

I myself did check out the misconnections. None about me but some other interesting ones none the less. Here's an exerpt: Entitled You can Pick your Friends or your Nose (charming title)

As my coworker and I were leaving the restaurant today after lunch, I commented on how busy you were today, and you replied that it was better than boredom, preferable to standing in the corner twiddling your thumbs or picking your nose. I tossed that old rhyme at you with a twist at the end. You laughed and said you needed that today. Would love to see those big beautiful eyes of yours again.

And that there is exactly why I am counting myself lucky that Best Buy Guy didn't post an ad on craigslist.

What bothers me though is that women always think the man must ask for your number, call/text you first, and ask you out. Yeah good luck getting him to be confident enough to do all of those things yet not be a cocky jerk.

Sometimes we just have to screw convention and go after what it is that WE WANT. If you really liked that guy why not pursue something? Sure he may deny you but if he does so what. But what if he really liked you to but was just way to scared to ask for your number because he assumed that you were to pretty or must have had a boyfriend.

Doors will open for you only if you turn the damn knob every once in a while!!

That is my word of advice to you all and also my justification for why I will be frequenting Best Buy till I see this guy again. I'll be sure to tell you guys how that one goes.

New City, New Life

Despite the fact that we call it spring cleaning, I feel like fall is really when we clean out our lives. The start  of a new school year and the start of a new season makes us ready for big changes to happen. Sometimes these can be as insignificant as throwing away an old pair of sneakers. But now when we're at the point of being on the edge of our future, at least us college students, the change seems like it needs to be bigger.

Moving to Kansas City from my small, rural hometown has been a dramatic change. Though it was a change for the better. The leap of faith was not an easy one one to make. I've never been a big one for change and leaving what is familiar.

I remembered crying every time the school year would change. I hated having to start over with names and teachers and rooms. If college has taught me anything it's how to be ready for change. The constantly transforming environment causes us to adapt quickly and easily.

So if anything can be learned from my experiences it's that you need to stop being afraid of taking chances. I know we hear this a million times and say we will take it to heart but we rarely put our words into actions. For once just go for it.

I promise you won't regret it.
