Cute Cashier Making My Day

This weekend my friends and I made a trip to the health food store about 30 minutes away. One of my besties is on a special diet where she can only eat certain types of sugars so we had to help her get stocked up!

In case you all were not aware health food stores are prime places to meet cute boys that may be slightly hipster or at least healthy. Plus all the stuff provides tons of opportunities to get a cute guys opinion on if that mineral water is really better than tap.

While we were checking out my friend and I were discussing this unusual chocolate flavor, Chile Cherry Dark Chocolate, and whether or not it would actually be yummy. The moderately cute, in a skinny hipster sort of way, cashier overheard us and said he'd give us one for free if we would eat it.

Yum!!

If you were offered free chocolate you cannot tell me you wouldn't jump all over that and just be giddy! And it was a huge expensive chocolate bar!! Which was delicious by the way. Kind of spicy but sweet at the same time.

Since this cashier gave me free chocolate and I'm a single girl it was immediately decided that he must have been in love with me. (My best friend Matt denies that this would be possible since we only had about 15-35 seconds of interaction.) BUT even on the chocolates packaging it says "give to someone you love." And on top of that there is a love poem inside.

Clearly this cashier knew all of that and knew I would read into immensely, which is why he gave me the chocolate in the first place. It was his subtle way of saying, "We are definitely soul mates now come back around the register and I will romantically dip you.

Ok, reality check, that's probably not what he meant at all. In fact he was probably supposed to give out a free chocolate ever certain number of customers. But I like to pretend it was me that was so special. I'll probably never see this cute cashier again but if I do you better believe I'm making a move!!

Forgive and Forget: Part 2

Sorry for it taking so long for me to write this post!

So my previous post was all about how we hurt ourselves by not letting go of the past and forgiving people. Today I want to talk about what forgiveness does for you not that it's not good for the other person too.

By complete coincidence this happened to be the priests sermon today which was crazy that it was exactly what I was thinking about already. It was really cool like he was talking straight to me.

The most striking line to me of his whole sermon was when he talked about how you have to open your hand to receive love. But you can't receive it unless you let go of what is in your hand already. All your anger and resentment. As long as we hold onto grudges and bad feelings we can't ever accept love or feelings from someone else.

I think a big misconception about forgiveness is that someone has to ask for it or that you're doing it for the other person. Really forgiveness is about making things right in your own heart not necessarily theirs, even though that would be a bonus.

For myself I forgive by trying to justify what the other person did. I tell myself it wasn't personal or that they were influenced by another factor that made them the way they are.

For instance I forgive my ex for everything he did to me because that's the way his Dad acts and that's the way he was raised to treat women. I'm not saying it was right but I think in his mind it didn't seem wrong.

But what I ask myself after I do all this justification is why? I don't need to make excuses for anyone else or try to make them out to be a better person. I should forgive them because I am the better person. I can be the adult in the situation.

Truly what it comes down to is being an adult and caring enough about yourself that you don't need to continue being upset or angry at someone.

So I challenge you all to let go of whatever you may be holding onto to. You can do it openly through a comment or if you'd feel more comfortable shoot me an email about how you are letting go of a grudge (classyinkc@yahoo.com). Or just do it on your own!

Just remember you are letting go for YOU.

Forgive and Forget: Part 1

This is part of series I'm writing on forgiveness and what it means. Check back in the coming days for the next parts!

In one of my journalism classes we have been discussing a lot about the conflicts that happen in other countries and how so many of them are based off of things that people in those countries feel are historical wrongs. Basically, anytime they get asked why they hate that country or that group it's because 90 years ago they did this to us.

Now doesn't that just seem silly? I guess the problem is that there is no set place to draw the line of when something is just "in the past."

This got me thinking that not only do countries and groups do this but people do this in relationships so much. Getting hung up on the past can be extremely detrimental to moving forward. My professor put it really well, "If you keep dewelling on the past how can you ever have peace?"

While he clearly meant peace in conflicts I think peace can also mean in a relationship. How can the fighting end unless someone lets go of the past? The truth is it probably can't.

I'm not a person to hold a grudge really but my former boyfriend could hold one better than any girl I know. If I did something wrong I would get reminded of it over and over and over. The thing was that it didn't change what I did. It didn't make either of us feel better about ourselves or our relationship.

I do think that their are certain things that maybe we can't "get over" or forgive. But if you find yourself experiencing one of those things in your relationship than maybe you should rethink it.

What I'm basically getting at is that while we should never let ourselves be pushovers we also shouldn't let the past stand in the way of our future and our potential. Getting upset about something is ok just don't let their wrong control your life.

Hmmm... this is going to get even more in depth tomorrow!

Makes Me Wanna Shout!

This semester I finally got brave enough to try out zumba. But let me tell you all, I have zero rhythm or coordination so it is NOT a pretty sight. But believe me I give it my all.

The best part about my zumba class is that it's held in the gym where all the male athletes have a wonderful view of my friends and I dancing our hearts out. The whole time I just keep telling myself they're staring because I look so hot not goofy.

Regardless I don't care what I look like because it is so fun to just let loose and go crazy all while exercising! If you haven't tried zumba you definitely should.

So to the purpose of this post. I wanted to share my favorite songs that we dance to in zumba. They instantly make me feel AWESOME no matter what kind of day I'm having.

#1 Loca- Shakira

#2 Jai Ho- Slum Dog Millionaire Soundtrack

#3 Shakira- Waka Waka (This is Africa)

I know I put Shakira on there twice but I can't help that she's awesome! The Waka Waka song is so awesome you'll just want to listen to it over and over and attempt to sing along even though some of it's not in english.

What songs do you all like to jam out or run to?

Letter to Myself

This is yet another letter I wrote to myself several months ago back in October. I think now is the time for me to FINALLY take my own advice. Enjoy.

Wow. It's incredible to look back on the Hayley of just a few years ago. I have changed so much in so many ways. I think I've also lost my drive to question everything about the world. I want to get that back.

But most of all I think I have learned. Four years ago I hadn't even had a glimpse of the world. Now, though I still have so much more to see I feel like I have at least had experiences I can learn from.

This is my advice to the girl I once was. You don't need anyone to support you or make you who you are. You felt so independent and you always said that you would never let a man boss you around or change who you were. But you feel so easily into that. Don't doubt yourself or who you are. You are wonderful exactly how you are without anyone by your side, or more likely dragging you along.

Love with all your heart but still take caution. You don't need to have a crush or a guy you are pursuing ALL the time. Even though you like to give yourself over completely to people they won't necessarily be a kind as they should be.

This is SO true. I don't need to have a crush or some I'm trying to get to like me all the time. It's ok to just be me. I'm working hard on becoming comfortable with that and everyone's insightful and thoughtful conflicts on my previous posts help more than you all know. So thank you your thoughts are so greatly appreciated.

Ridiculous Obsession with Love

If you recognize the title as a line from Moulin Rouge then kudos to you! It's a fantastic movie and if you don't go watch it.

I'll be the first to admit I am obsessed with the idea of love. Tonight I was watching the movie City of Angels, the one with Meg Ryan and Nicholas Cage, with some pals and I just started bawling when Nick started talking about how just one kiss with Meg was worth giving up eternity.

In the middle of my cry/laughing because I was crying fest I yelled: "I just want to be loved!!"

But why am I and basically every other single person on the plant so obsessed with the idea of being in love? I can't really answer that other than that being with someone that completes you must be the best thing in the whole world so we strive to have that.

The craziest part is that when we are in love we take it for granted. I think we forget how difficult the journey to get there was. All the work that goes into loving someone and accepting their faults and flaws. It's not easy! But once we're there we think, Love? Ha. I could find love with someone else easy!

Then we become single and realize that's not the case at all. Love isn't a something that comes along everyday. It can't be delivered at your door step with your morning paper. It's something that has to find you or be found. That's what makes it so special.

I feel like sometimes we take how special love it for granted. We look around and see tons of people in love everyday so that must mean it's common-place when really it's nothing short of extraordinary that two people were able to find each other and then find that spark and THEN want to put effort forth to make things work!

So I guess what this post really has turned into is that you should never take love for granted. Never forget the work you put in to get there and be thankful you have it.

As for me, I'm only 20 and I've already been in love once. That's pretty lucky if you ask me. Even though it didn't pan out I have to rest of my life to find the real true love and when I do you can bet I'll cherish it.
